6 THINGS I LEARNED SELF-PUBLISHING MY (FIRST) BOOK on AMAZON KINDLE and other platforms PT.1.

  1. IT IS ABSOLUTELY FREE. Yes I mean, it doesn’t cost you anything if you are willing to put the work. My only expense was cover design. The publishing process itself is cost-free and efficient if you know what you’re doing or you are an adept learner and quickly grasp the guidelines. Amazon has a great network to publish paperback and eBooks. But you have a lot of options…
  2. The support staff is amazing. I mean they are immensely helpful. I was a complete newbie to the field of publishing.. I didn’t know how it worked, how you had to have it properly formatted or that you needed certain things like ISBN number etc. I spent a lot of time asking questions to the customer service support on various websites especially Amazon.
  3. Plan your release. Don’t just jumble together a release date and go for it. Plan the day you want to publish. Make sure people around you know that date. Make sure your date is a reasonable one that you can accomplish and while it should push you to finish your manuscript, it shouldn’t be unrealistic.
  4. Writing a book is the easy part. Trust me when I say this… completing a book is easier compared to what comes next. The struggle begins when you want to get it published. Self-publishing, while empowering, is also tiring. I spent hours… weeks editing my book until I felt it was perfect and still, every day I would find more things to fix. I spent such a long time on this. Then there’s the cover, the synopsis, the formatting. God, formatting a book is such an arduous process. Sure, eventually it is rewarding but it is extremely frustrating as well.
